Can You Stop Robocalls? What You Need To Know

by Kenneth Pierce

Robocalls are a frustrating part of everyday life. They occur at all times of the day and are often frustrating. These calls are often connected to scams that have the potential to do a lot of damage. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to help stop them as much as possible. Here are some things you can do to reduce the number of robocalls you receive:

Join the Do Not Call Registry

There is a federal program you can join to stop some of the robocalls. The Do Not Call Registry is offered by the Federal Trade Commission. It not only keeps your phone number off of robocall lists but also takes legal action against telemarketers and companies behind robocalls.

Silence Callers That Are Unknown

Many robocalls display an unknown number on your phone. Most phones have the option to silence any call that has this display. You need to check your phone manufacturer's settings to determine how to take this action. Once you silence unknown calls, you will still receive them, but you will not hear your phone constantly ringing.

Install Apps to Help Stop Robocalls

There are some apps available for download that will help prevent robocalls. These apps identify and block robocalls to stop them from getting through to your phone. There are several to choose from, so do your research and choose the app that will best meet your needs.

Utilize Legal Help

Because robocalls can cause so much damage, there are laws to help protect citizens from robocalls. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Truth in Caller ID Act, and the TRACED Act are all laws designed to regulate who can make robocalls and provides the rules the companies must follow.

One thing to keep in mind is that robocalls are not lawful without your permission. Any company trying to contact or solicit you must let you know they use robocalls for product promotion. If you continue to receive calls when you did not give permission, the company is in violation of the law.

If a company excessively robocalls you, an attorney can get involved. Your attorney can sue a robocaller in many cases. Robocalls that are placed from another country, however, can be difficult to sue since they are not bound by American laws. Also, your attorney can sue the companies calling you, but they are often not able to stop them. You might stop receiving the calls, but they will continue to call others in most cases.

About Me

Get Ahead in Your Personal Injury Case

As the sister of a law student, I thought that I could handle my own personal injury case when I was hit by a vehicle as I was walking across the street. Luckily, the car wasn't going very fast – but I did end up with a contusion and a broken leg. Turns out the process wasn't easy and I ended up hiring a lawyer. I learned a lot about the kind of information needed to win a personal injury case such as the kind of evidence that is effective and the types of documentation needed from the insurance company, employers, and even witnesses that were at the scene. My name is Rebecca, and I created this website to help guide you through your personal injury case. There is no reason for you to feel alone throughout the process, and I hope my insight helps you feel more empowered with your decision making.
