Work on your finances and a plan for afterward
A second preliminary step you should take if considering divorce is working through your finances to create a plan for after the divorce. One of the biggest challenges spouses face from a divorce is the financial effects. Splitting your household from one into two creates new financial challenges for both spouses, and you will want to make sure you know this and are prepared to be able to support yourself afterward.
