Creative Ways To Serve Someone Legal Papers

by Kenneth Pierce

Are you planning on taking someone to court over a legal matter? If so, you'll need to certify that they have received the paperwork that notifies them of their upcoming court date. Unfortunately, this can be quite difficult to do at times, because people are aware of the legal requirement of certified delivery of paperwork and try to avoid it if possible. Here are some creative ways that you can identify somebody to serve them paperwork.

Fake A Delivery

An easy way to identify someone to serve paperwork is to fake a delivery. Have a friend show up at the person's home or office with a large package that needs to be signed for. Hopefully, the person will identify themselves, sign a piece of paper with their signature, and accept their package. Inside will be the paperwork that was just certified deliver.

The problem with this method is that the person you are serving papers to may be aware that they are not expecting a package and not sign to receive it. It may help to use something that looks clearly like a gift, such as flowers, which will be difficult for the person to reject being delivered.

Offer A Free Meal

People often throw their business card into fishbowls at local restaurants in hopes of winning a free meal. Work with a local restaurant to see if you can convince the person that they won a free meal and can come down to the restaurant to redeem it that day. Tell them they need to bring a business card to prove that it is them, which can be a form of identification used to certify paperwork being served.

While this one is a little bit tricky to pull off, you will at least know if the person is willing to show identification by coming down to the restaurant.

Call Them Over The Intercom

Know a store that the person visits? While the person is shopping, go to the customer service area and have them call the person's name over the intercom system to summon them to the front of the store. When they identify themselves to one of the employees, you can use this opportunity to confirm their identity and serve them legal papers. They will be hopefully be caught off guard and not see it coming.

If you are having difficulty serving someone legal papers, work with a local process server at companies like AAA Attorney Service Co Of Ny Inc to do it for you.

About Me

Get Ahead in Your Personal Injury Case

As the sister of a law student, I thought that I could handle my own personal injury case when I was hit by a vehicle as I was walking across the street. Luckily, the car wasn't going very fast – but I did end up with a contusion and a broken leg. Turns out the process wasn't easy and I ended up hiring a lawyer. I learned a lot about the kind of information needed to win a personal injury case such as the kind of evidence that is effective and the types of documentation needed from the insurance company, employers, and even witnesses that were at the scene. My name is Rebecca, and I created this website to help guide you through your personal injury case. There is no reason for you to feel alone throughout the process, and I hope my insight helps you feel more empowered with your decision making.
